On 8th March 2023, we officially opened new, larger premises for Feathers Futures, Great Yarmouth’s independent women’s charity. The charity has moved from its original home in George Street just a few minutes away and is now located in a larger building, Feathers House, just off Hall Quay, at the side of Larkes Estate Agent.
Feathers House was aptly opened on International Women’s day, and all rooms are creatively named after inspirational women throughout history.
Jo Critch, Founder and Manager, commented, “We are so proud at how Feathers Futures has grown over the past few years and rightly proud of the big difference we have made to so many women who needed our support. The necessity for more space illustrates that the charity and services offered are much needed and much in demand. This is a positive moment in Feathers Futures history, and I know these new premises will enable us to make a great difference even more women and expand our services.”
Feathers Futures was founded in 2018 to bridge the gap in providing an immediate safe space, and an instant, supportive haven for women across Great Yarmouth. The charity, run by a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, is a friendly place for women to come and make friends, socialise, learn new skills and receive support.
Feathers Futures brings women together into a connected community group, providing a safe, non-judgmental environment. As a result, women can have a voice and express feelings while being heard and understood.
The unique charity offers a range of expertise to help women to create a brighter future. Over the years, Feathers Futures has created enjoyable small groups, including drop-in sessions, counselling, domestic abuse tool kit, Feathers Friends, classes and groups, a free toiletries bank, book club and art sessions. Through its unique blend of services, Feathers, Futures are proud to have helped create a better future for hundreds of women each year.
With the growing need for supporting women in Great Yarmouth, the larger premises will enable the charity to help more women and expand activities through our series of warm, friendly rooms for one-to-one sessions alongside larger rooms for crafts, workshops and activities complete with an inviting kitchen area, our Hub. Rooms are available for hire to like-minded organisations whose values match Feathers Futures’ community ethos. Access to kitchen and catering facilities is also available.
There is lots of easy-to-access parking on the roads nearby, and the nearest car park is on Howards Street.
Donna Baldwin, Chair of Trustees, added, “This is an exciting new chapter for our Feathers Futures family, and although we will be sad to leave our old premises as they hold many fond memories, it is now time to move on and be able to support even more women who need a helping hand.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to the Great Yarmouth community for all the kind donations and to all our volunteers and supporters for rallying around and making this move possible.”
