Counselling 1-1
We offer access to free 1–1 counselling as part of our wider wellbeing support at Feathers Futures. Counselling is delivered by trainee counsellors who are completing their professional placements alongside counselling degrees at the University of Suffolk.
All counsellors are carefully supported and supervised as part of their training, and sessions take place in a safe, confidential, and welcoming space.
Our counselling approaches
Our counsellors train in a range of therapeutic approaches, which means support can be responsive to different needs and experiences.
Person-centred counselling
This approach focuses on you as the expert in your own life. It offers a non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, explore your feelings, and move at your own pace, with the counsellor alongside you rather than directing you.

Psychodynamic counselling
Psychodynamic counselling looks at how past experiences, relationships, and patterns may be affecting how you feel or respond in the present. It can be particularly helpful for understanding repeated behaviours, emotions, or difficulties.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
CBT focuses on the link between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It can help with developing practical tools to manage anxiety, low mood, and unhelpful thinking patterns in day-to-day life.

Important things to know
Counselling is one part of our wider support offer and is not a replacement for statutory mental health or wellbeing services. If you are struggling or need urgent support, we encourage you to access NHS wellbeing services.
There is often a waiting list for counselling, and availability depends on placement cycles and capacity.
Counselling at Feathers Futures is available to women who are already engaging with our groups, activities, or wider support. You can’t access counselling on its own, we believe connection, community, and ongoing support matter just as much as the sessions themselves.
Our counsellors
Many of our counsellors choose to stay with us after qualifying, continuing to offer their time, skills, and care to the women who use Feathers Futures. We are incredibly grateful for their generosity, commitment, and the depth of support they bring to our community
